Albuquerque International Airport
The Albuquerque International Sunport is located 19 miles south of Rio Rancho. The Sunport handled 6,487,276 passengers in 2006. The Sunport’s passenger count has increased an average two percent a year for the last 15 years. The freight center moved 32,879 tons of cargo in 2006. There were 192,520 takeoffs and landings, or an average of 527 per day, in 2006 at the Sunport. Approximately 3,400 people are employed at the Sunport.
The Sunport is served by eight major commercial carriers: American, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Northwest, Southwest and U.S. Airways. Regional airline service is ExpressJet, Shuttle America, Horizon Air, Mesa Airlines and Skywest Airlines. It also receives regular service from commuter airlines: Great Lakes Airlines, and Mesa Airlines. Freight service is provided by DHL Express, Empire, Federal Express, Southwest Aero Service and UPS.
ABQ offers nonstop service to 39 cities, including: Amarillo, Atlanta, Austin (service begins 6/07), Baltimore (BWI), Chicago (Midway/O'Hare), Cincinnati, Dallas (DFW/Love Field), Denver, El Paso, Houston (Bush/Hobby), Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Newark, Oakland, Oklahoma City (service begins 4/07), Ontario (service begins 4/07), Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento (service begins 5/07), Salt Lake City, San Antonio (service begins 6/12), San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle/Tacoma, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Tucson, Tulsa (service begins 4/07), Washington (Dulles). Nonstop in-state service is offered to Carlsbad, Clovis, Farmington, Roswell and Silver City.
Double Eagle II Airport
Double Eagle II Airport is located just south of Rio Rancho’s southern border (Quail Ranch) near the Petroglyph National Monument and is accessible from both Interstate 40 and Interstate 25. There are approximately 240 based aircraft and approximately 120,000 annual operations comprised of training flights, military flights, air ambulance, charter, private and corporate flights.
The airport has two runways; runway 4-22 is 7,398 feet in length by 100 feet wide, has full ILS and is equipped with a MALSR on the runway end. Runway 17-35 is 5,999 feet in length by 100 feet wide, and has REIL on each end. Runway 4 and 17 are equipped with PAPI visual navigational aide. Traffic pattern altitude is 6,800' mean sea level. There are right hand traffic patterns for runways 22 and 35.
